2024 really feels like the most exiting year so far concerning the developements for SAI-MLD, with so many great guestmixes and many meaningful invitations for me on other platforms. And finally the release of my MLD-Compilation on Bandcamp, related to the upcoming live event near Berlin next Summer 2025! So thankfully about all this!
And as this year comes to an end soon I would love to crown it with something special what in my view brings some kind of fresh wind on my channel, with some inspirations from a different direction. And it's given from such a passionated DJ and producer: Stefan Summesberger a.k.a. SOUMEZ, located in Vienna, Austria!  (www.soundcloud.com/soumez)
We connected recently via social media because he has a very cool insta accound where he is digging in his record collection and presents and introduce his favorite tracks from different gengres in such a lovely way! (www.instagram.com/soumez_1) That's how Stefan catched my attention and obviously it happened vise versa.. By some chat moments we found out a lot of parallels how we see the meaning of diversity of gengres in a DJ set and he could relate immediatly to the significance of the name of my mix series "Moments Of Light 'n Darkness". So of course I invited him to do a guestmix for me and very proud now to present such a great set in form of a live session together with some live dubby fx from his friend El Coca!
What I like about this contribution is the fact, this artist is someone who does not come from the, let's say, usual circle of people that you would expect to see on my platform. And that is perhaps exactly the sign that the year 2025 will bring: I am not at all determined by which scene someone comes from...or whether someone even belongs to a particular scene. The main thing for me is enthusiasm for similar things that provide points of contact that we can all relate to. That creates a bond.

Some personal words from him about this mix:
"This live session brings together DJ SOUMEZ on the decks and EL COCA with live dubs (effects), creating a unique tribute to dubtechno for Sai-MLD.

Full video available on YouTube:
🎥youtu.be/I-4S8RaGWTk

The inspiration for this mix stems from the name of the series: Moments of Light and Darkness (MLD). While I enjoy exploring diverse genres as a DJ, this set challenged me to focus on dubtechno—a cornerstone of the incredible platform that SAI, a true musicnerd, lover & enthusiast for dubtechno and dubrelated sounds, has built over the years.

To honor this genre, I created a journey that revisits dubtechno as a central root while branching into related styles like Dubstep, Dub, Steppas, Breaks & Garage, Rave, House, and Detroit Techno. To deepen the "Dubbiness" of the experience, I invited my friend and former production partner, EL COCA, to perform live dubs, adding dynamic effects that reflect the genre’s origins.

The result is a two-hour exploration of sound—an intricate sequence of Moments of Light and Darkness. Enjoy the ride!"

About the artist:
For Stefan Summesberger, a.k.a. Soumez, music defies categories and genres. With his Alien Entertainment project, he achieved chart success and earned recognition from icons like Laurent Garnier and Makossa & Megablast. Tracks like "Full Speed Ahead ft. Rider Shafique" found their way into the sets of superstars such as Chase & Status and Adam Freeland.
Born in Vienna, Soumez has been DJing across the USA, UK, Africa, and Europe since the late 1990s. His unique style blends diverse musical influences from his travels, combining opposites—bitter with sweet, brute with smooth—to create gripping, hypnotic sounds.

Guestmix Narcotic 303 for MLD

My next guest for MLD is Narcotic 303 who runs the appreciated Deeptakt label. We cooperated recently because he did the mastering for my MLD Compilation and through that I got to know his huge experience and knowledge about producing and mixing electronic music.
So I invited him to contribute with a mix.
What he provided then was really surprising for me because I didn't espect such a low tempo! His set is full of mellow deepness together with an ongoing dub vibe. It makes me calm and relaxed, a mix one can listen to on repeat a whole evening while you hang out with friends or doing things for your selfcare. And it fits perfectly to cosy Winterdays and the magic time between the years - Rauhnächte are here again soon.

Tracklist:
Float & Rütz - Sansui
Venture - Never got to Goodbye
Lars Leonhard - Deep in the Fog
44 Mind & Subforms - Zlata (Gradient's Emotions Variant)
Phaeleh - Edge of Darkness
Claudio PRC - Domo

Mr Bizz - Life
Federson - Octavian
El Choop - Procrationation Dub (Dub Reshape)
Jaymon - Zittau nad Nisou
Tom Cabrinha - Alone in the Forest
Segue - Summits & Spires

About the artist:
In 1996, Narcotic 303 entered the fascinating world of music production for
the first time - and thus began a journey that led him inexorably into the
depths of electronic music. He soon took to the turntables, and in 2004
Narcotic 303 conquered the DJ booths. His musical works are deeply rooted
in dub techno and techno, and his first single “Aura” found a home on the
renowned dub techno label DimbiDeep.
But that was just the beginning! With two impressive albums, two acclaimed
vinyl releases and a multitude of digital releases on labels such as deepindub,
Turmfalke, Deeptakt Records, Dreiton, Insectorama, Solid Capsule Records,
RNDMZR Records and Note Recordings, he has firmly established himself
in the scene. His DJ sets are a journey for the senses -
from atmospheric sounds to pulsating underground techno sets and
powerful hard techno.

Sai in Session with DJ Sideways & Noosa Sound System

I find it very interesting to observe the range of different productions that fly under the banner of Dubtechno these days...
And although I like many of these variations, from the more ambient and chord-focused interpretations to the dry, atonal and polyrhythmic percussively focused productions, I've been getting a sense lately that something is a little wrong. By this I mean since a certain point there has been a development towards a generic sound and format that somehow seems very superficial bringing the same flat and trivial sounds thrown together and promoted as "Dubtechno" and to me, often it seems like fast food compared to the original models. There is even talk of a new wave. Both the production and the way it is presented seem somehow cheap, random and arbitrary to me. Often it is difficult if not impossible to avoid being interwined with these developments if you are enthusiastic about the often amorphous genre that is now labeled Dubtechno.
Don't get me wrong I am not saying that there is no place for this "new sound" but the more I reflect on my enthusiasm - from my first exposure to dub and its techno hybrids, through rhythm & sound and through sound system culture in the late 90s to my renewed immersion in recent years, I realize that I should use the terms Dub and Dubtechno more and more carefully - coming from a place of a certain respect and appreciation. Because often these genres, carry a lot of cultural heritage, standing for a level of quality in delivery that in reality is hard to develop, and often lost to the disposable imitation economy we are beginning to see more and more of, which only serves to dilute things to an accepted average.

To me a big slice of what is promoted as Dub or Dubtechno these days falls well short of these original benchmarks that were set a long time ago.

Through many conversations about these topics, reflecting on different perspectives, a mix was created recently where two fellows, I can call my friends, and I combined 3 sequential sets of 7 tracks each, to rest with and pay a little respect to some of the more remote but still relatable facets of dub in different ways. It's completely natural for styles to evolve and mix. It's great to see with how much creativity and depth some artists do this. And that's what this mix should stand for.
You can listen now to this wonderfull journey through these divergent realms..this is Sai - MLD in Session with DJ Sideways & Noosa Sound System.

Some personal words about  this mix from each of us:

DAN: “a mix that i was asked so kindly to join in with..

and when sai first asked me, there was no way i could say no, as sai has become a very special friend. i just love her style of mixing and her personality shines through with every mix she does.

so thank you sai..x

the other player in the session is no other than my good friend

chris..aka..NOOSA SOUND SYSTEM. chris is a real pro when it comes to making music..as you`ve all probably heard his tracks by now. a real dub techno legend! and not just that, but has become a real good friend too. probably because he`s a fellow brit!!.. anyway, thank you both for this!! thank you both for your music and thank you both for your friendship...”

SAI: “When I start selecting tracks for a mix for me it feels always like creating a mixtape for a friend like I used to do in the very early days. Knowing that this  would stand in the middle of a wider picture with these two appreciated friends had a special meaning for me, like a manifesto for this strong connection no matter what. in my 7 track selection i integrated some dub related tracks in a diverse manner from more ambient,  experimental,  even really foggy and darkened atmosphere to more light full and reggae influenced tones..i recently discussed a lot with Chris about dub and dub poetry and it's history - technically, psychology and spirituality ..also the wide spectrum of gengres where you can find these raw fragments of dub sounds.... my selection is obviously influenced by that...and it relates perfectly by the way to my idea of "mld goes live" a little event, like a boutique festival so to say, i want to create next year with the aim presenting very diverse perspectives of dub. I like to use the phrase "facests of dub" as a frame what discribes a certain field but don't make it to concrete and determined what it has to be...from roots to more electronic like dubstep to more faster  technoid styles...and all the experimental crossovers inbetween. .. i also want to release a digital compilation as a crowdfunder to support the event.  you find more infos about that project on www.sai-mld-music.com/mld-goes-live/  “

CHRIS: “I can't remember who's idea this session mix was, but I recall the brief was easy, with no rush or expectation applied - seven tracks each - an open ended invite to contribute to a musical conversation between friends as if we were gathered at someone's house, sharing records at the decks, like we used to do so many years ago.

Living in a remote location, years later after the advent of the digital revolution, these gatherings happen on a differnt level, crossing borders and time zones, yet the spirit of the connection is equally strong. Despite the relaxed brief, I had a feeling that this set would come together quickly, and I wasn't wrong!  If you are open to it, sometimes our selections, can fall into place with  synchronous meanings when applied in hindsight to life's flow, a track title or connections to life events current at the time perhaps. When I found  myself sitting down to plan my part, I had the luxury of hearing Dan and Sai's contribution to the narrative first, and in closing the set, I decided to draw on some of my formative influences, and a few oddities to take us somewhere maybe, as formative influences are something I have found myself going back to recently in conversation. I've found that story telling is becoming a bigger and much needed part of what we do these days, so for my part, we went into space somewhere of course, to meet up with Lee Scratch Perry! Before drifting off into the eternal towards our next sonic adventures! Hope you enjoy this session as much as we do.

thanks for listening - Chris H (Noosa Sound System)”

Liuos for MLD

Let's wellcome my new guest who did a fabulous mix for some Moments Of Light 'n Darkness (MLD): Liuos from Finnland!!
Lious seemed to arrive on the dub techno scene all at once with Terms EP, his strong debut on Cold Tear Records, but this was the culmination of two decades of experimentation and discipline. A unique mix of power and spaciousness, of both longing and will, Liuos’ work stands out for its clarity and expansiveness. Working steadily from his modest studio in Finland, Liuos has quietly become a respected name in the world of dub techno, with releases on Cold Tear, Lucidflow, and spclnch and remixes for Superordinate Dub Waves and Piranha Siberia Dub.

Selections highlight classic Orca paired with some experimental burners, wrapped in a droning, sonic bath."

Oldschool Dubtechno Producer for MLD

I guess these two #lovely fellows I don't have to introduce when you hang out in the #dubby gengre?! Actually they shaped my knowledge of the present independent artists scene quiet well. And I can say, they are part of my own developement in the last years, in particular because of their continous support they gave me. For me they are one of the key figures in the international dubtechno gengre. But if you didn't hear from those two brothers yet: Oldschool Dubtechno Producer are an electronic music collective from Siberia, who create music in the dub techno genre. They strive to create music that is #deep, #atmospheric and #minimalistic, yet #meaningful and #intelligent, #reflecting their #mood, #emotions and #surroundings.

The guys also manage the Siberian (Russia) dubtechno label [PIRANHA SIBERIA DUB]. Which has produced more than 60 artists to date from all over the world. The label also releases a series of dubtechno podcasts DUBBISM.

"We love #dubtechnomusic & #deeptechno in all its #manifestations.
Our mission is to unite #dubtechno #lovers from all over the world.More music. Everyday. Join now!" Their label also established pretty fine and the releases you find regularly in my sets. For me, it has a very special meaning that they followed my invite to contribute with a set for MLD, because they were one of the first big podcast channels who has invited me as an absolutly no name, guess it's two years ago..very honoured I was allowed to bring a follow up some months after...

Today they come with a very emotional set...diverse....with a story of light and dark (and also a Sai blink in it) Thank you my brothers! I appreciate your work so much and proud to be able to present this installement from you here! Much love ❤️🙏

Matt Ponsi for MLD

In these bluish times I find it so important to put all the crafts together.
"With each other instead of against each other", should be the motto of the hour in my view. And as a Sag, equal rights & justice are no empty words for me...can't help but hold on to it. Because your advantage gonna be mine, too at the end - and vice versa. And a healthy human system is build for connection, especially our brains work like this. But sometimes things need the long lane to develop befor one can see the true diamond. Especially when it comes to emotional stuff with much pain and charge in it. Things can't be rushed and they shouldn't, if they shall stay and last.
But back to our guestmix..
So today I want to indroduce to you a very nice creation from Matt Ponsi from Halle (Saale), Germany who always is mixing everything he does with so much love for details as 100% vinyl sets - and this one also!
Matthias also made the connection to the nice and gentle people from radio corax for me (thanks for that again-where I gonna play a live set on Sat July 27th from 10 to midnight at their studio📻..guess I can offer a listen back on my channel after)
So comments about this set are very welcome!
Much love to all! Enjoy! One love 💕

 Noosa Sound System for MLD

So...I take a deep breath now...because this is something so very special to me what I am able to introduce to you now...since a certain time a nice ongoing connection of music love has build to Chris a.k.a. Noosa Soundsystem from Australia. And now he has built a set especially for MLD!! Can't believe that this is real now...he is such a talented producer and those who know about his releases find a very unique and deep sound in his tracks...also his fast developement is amazing and very inspiring for me...I'm curious about his process in future!
so here's what Chris himself says about this special mix:
"Rather than opting to beat mix a dub techno set, I wanted to create something special for this guest mix - and in so doing - maybe share a deeper insight into the sonic aesthetic that informs the Noosa Sound System project. Taking a deep dive into my personal archives for this session, we navigate some pretty abstract long-form ambient territory in places. Whilst there is also some re workings of material from the Beyond the Sphere album that released last year on Greyscale.
Normally some of these more experimental recordings might sit on the hard drive, as sample material or sound design references. However putting them together into a different narrative that wouldn't usually eventuate, has been a super interesting exercise leading to this exclusive set.
I hope you enjoy the session as much as I did, and if you listen carefully, you'll hear someone present during recording, loose it at one point as we start spinning a radio on the old 1200 Mk2. I left this in the final edit because it captures the fun to be had when we don't take our time in the studio too seriously! All that remains now is to express my thanks, much love and respect to Sai for the invite to MLD, and of course to you for listening - whoever you are - please don't be a stranger!
One love - Chris (Noosa Sound System)"

Sunny Inside for MLD

My next guest for some MLD is none rather than SUNNY INSIDE from South Africa, also well known for his extraordinary podcast series DARK MENTAL DUB on hearthis.at ..! What a pleasure to have you on board, my dear brother!
He is putting a real emotional set on the table, with some experimental parts in the beginning what leads to weird emotional stuff after, also some traditional drum patterns in it, what I really love and after all gives us some beautiful dubby vibes at the end.

What he is saying personally about this set:
"It's either we heal or get to express ourselves through music,Yes!
I have what I would call (Peaceful Dub) since it's time of famine caused deliberately by the dirty gamers and the game itself , I have been meaning to keep my left turn since the whole world is going the same direction ... in short I have a contribution to make to MLD series hosted by my dear sister Kerstin a.k.a. Sai based in Germany - it is a heartfelt dedication to the people of Palestine and the souls in heaven ..
thank you so much for letting me be a visitor in your home (MLD) ,for allowing me to send prayer & not bunch of armies or anything like that .
peace to all mankind."

South Africa to me is another very important spot in this worldwide Dubtechno interaction. So many good releases come from there. And whenever I'm watching the posts on social media how people are celebrating this kind of music together I really feel that vibe!

Reitzklang for MLD

The next guest mix entered my channel and I am so glad about one hight quality installement after another!!!
So, recently I had this amazing hypnotic techno set from AnTi on MLD, what you can listen back here:
Kerstin-saidykhan – Anti-for-sai
And now I have a Dub Techno set from behalf of this project, which is Timo Reitzklang, Germany. (from the nice area we call Sauerland) I came across him because of his nice Dubtechno mixes on other Podcasts Series.
He has a long history as a DJ, started in the middle of the 90ies with Techno and Trance, in particular inspired by the Techno sound of Frankfurt in the early 90s (Harthouse, Eye Q etc.) For the last 20 years, he has concentrated on Techno, Progressive House and Dub Techno. And finally, he started producing his own tracks. On MLD he presents himself with this deep and athmospheric Dub Techno set, Thanks a lot to contribute with this very appreciated creation, what makes my system slowing down and gives me a very relaxed mood.
Enjoy! <3

Guestmix - AnTi for MLD

Please welcome my next guests on MLD - this time I present you a journey from a project called AnTi.

This name stands for the collaboration between DJ Noizia and her partner Timo Reitzklang. While Timo for me is well known for his great Dubtechno Sets, AnTi goes more into the Hypnotic Techno direction and engage in Industrial elements. In this collab they  put their musical key experiences together and create a very special atmosphere with an almost transcendental energy. I really love that!

What fascinates me also is this fine meditative and restrained attitude while the mood appears really dark and mystic.

What they say about their artistic work for themselves: "We invite you to sit back, let your thoughts wander, and let the hypnotic beats of our music carry you away.

Hypnotic Techno is more than just music, it's a journey into the depths of your soul. With its pulsating, repetitive beats and deep, ethereal synthesizers, it invites you to fall into a trance where space and time merge. Our mix has been carefully curated to create exactly this effect – to immerse you in a hypnotic trance."

I'm very proud to present you such a mezmerising guestmix here on my channel!

Thank you so much, Anna and Timo - go ahead with your wonderful project as AnTi!

Enjoy! ❤️

Guestmix Francesco Tamburrano for MLD

Francesco Tamborrano is a DJ and a producer who I recognised recently via the nice ECOUL SND label from Nicolas Barnes (Riga, Latvia). So I was very pleased, when he offered to do a guest mix for MLD! 👍🙏
He is a Venice based producer who focuses dub techno sounds with bass lines borrowed from techno and deep house to build a “melting Electronic”: sometimes hypnotic, sometimes raw, sometimes groovy. His first EP ‘Soft’ released earlier this year on ECOUL SND label ,he’s now working on follow up releases and some of the present and future tracks are played in this mix.
This is what he is personally saying about it:
"A mix podcast in my view is a personal challenge to achieve just one goal: mixing different tracks like a new and endless one. For this I tried to add hybrid sounds from different machines beyond the decks. Hoping you enjoy my flowing music trip."
💫🎶

Sideways for MLD - guestmix

It's such a big pleasure for me to have Dan a.k.a. DJ Sideways now on my channel, presenting his session for some Moments Of Light 'n Darkness (MLD).
I really love his way not making big words about huge things he gets spinning and rolling - also with his growing YouToube Channel, where one by one well known gives each other the handle to present themselves with a dubtechno mixtape. Actually this channel it was which makes me switch to Youtube more often now, listening to his uploads regularly with much interest! His passion how he is doing it impresses and inspires me. I'm really happy about this supportive and kind connection, also with other kind cooperations in the sourroundings, which will result in nuff cool things in future, I can bet!
This is what Dan says about himself:
"Hi I'm Dj Sideways, I play dubtechno and ambient, with a sprinkling of deep house mixed, using rekordbox dvs with 2 turntables.and phase.
Vinyl is the future!!!
I'm just a 53 year old bloke having some fun on the decks..

And I certainly ain't no pro DJ..
So if it's perfection you are after, your in the wrong place..lol..
Enjoy the music.."

Guest Mix on MLD - Lonerist

It's really such a pleasure for me to have one of my favorite producers here as a guest DJ in the mix for some Moments Of Light 'n Darkness. You find his tracks regularly in my sets. I love his way to interpretate dub techno and dark ambient stuff also. He also has a wide range of styles in his background wether more housy stuff or some weird and sonic eighties flavours.
Now he comes with such a deep and ritch dubby set with so much light and energy.
Here's what he is saying about it personally: "I've been a fan of Kerstin's MLD series for a while so it's a privilege to be asked to contribute a guest mix. It's a selection of faster, harder tracks which is a side of dub techno I think is often overlooked. I wanted it to be hard and funky but always deep, the kind of mix which would be equally suited to a club or headphones environment. There's a mix of old and new with some great recent releases and a few classics, bookended by my 2 favourite ever dub tech tracks."
Please have a listen to Lonerist on MLD! Thanks a lot, Greg, such an honor to present this! 🙏💫💫✨

Seabra Monkey's Dub & Dirty Mixtape Sai - MLD Edition

So this is my first guestmix in 2024. And I am very happy about it, because it is another unique artist who I wanna give space on my platform. This time it is Seabra Monkey who got through to me.Thanks so much, really appreciate this special creation!🙏✨

Here are some personal words from him as an indroduction:
"As I like to add some extra Seabra Monkey sauce to all my mixtapes, I spoiled a bit too much on this one! Out of twelve tracks, eleven are edited in some way or another. Some small, some big. The mixtape has musical influences of genres like Dubtechno, Experimental, Ambient and Industrial. The tracks that needed a pull back into the Dub genre have added synths, reverbs, echoes and other stuff. This mixtape is special to me as during the process I kept on editing tracks. It was great fun and it brought me new insides on my producing skills. I hope all you listeners will enjoy it. A special shoutout to Sai for challenging me on this one and giving this Mixtape a spin on her platform!
Enjoy!

(n:ar)   -   ambient mix for MLD

It turns out, that my platform becomes a space for guestmixes now. This month in December 2023 there are even two successively. And I would say, it started without any force because actually it wasn’t something I had in my mind and I did not expect, it would ever come to a point where this would be possible. You can read some personal thoughts about it here:   www.sai-mld-music.com/blog/

So I am very pleased to share another guest mix on my channel! 🙏✨
This one comes from (n:ar) -- aka *nautical edits* @artificialrepeats
When I listened to it, I thought, this one is the perfect guidance through the magical time during the years, the time in German we call "Raunächte". (25th Dec - 6th Jan)
Here are some thoughts from (N:ar) himself about this mix:
"Blending ambient lo-fi dub techno and dreamlike sequences mixed with the occasional rhythmic kick track for this set of mixes. All done with a push 2/Ableton, a lot of processing and even more feeling.; gaining a deep but direct finish that is completely immersive.
--The mix here is freeform and with the help of the fantastic artists I bring you this set with the aim of lifting your gaze leading you into the ambient wilds."
Enjoy! ❤️

Paranoid Soul For MLD Pt. 2

A producer, compiler, a photographer and digital designer and also a hunter and protector for unknown and unseen potentials in the dubtechno scene.
Find here another excellent mix that my longterm virtual intimate P.S. from SPACE VIEWX recently transcended to me, previously for a listen, then for uplift. 🙏 And it shouldn't be withheld. I am proud to give it a save space on this channel. Let's believe in ourselves and give thanks.
No tracklist as always. Put on the helmets and enjoy, if you like. 🎶✨
Yours truly ❤️

 Sa3b - Moments Of Light 'n Darkness

It's a great pleasure for me, to present another guest mix on my channel.
This time from Sa3b from Beirut/ Libanon who is also one of my continuous motivators what really means a lot to me!
Sa3b is a talented DJ and producer/remixer specializing in dub techno, renowned for his captivating sets and deep, atmospheric soundscapes. With a passion for electronic music rooted in the genre's history, Sa3b has honed his skills and developed a unique musical identity.
What I personal like the most of his sets are his really raw and monotone minimal taste and flavours which he has already shown on many podcast series.

Guestmix Paranoid Soul (SPACE VIEWX) for Moments Of Light & Darkness

Those who know about the athmospheric style of Paranoid Soul from SPACE VIEWX will recognise his deep and dark signature immediately. I'm very grateful to welcome him now as a guest on my channel to present himself with this instalment for some Moments of Light & Darkness - spreading these tensional but also protective slowmotions for us. So nice to have you on board, dear amigo! 💕 Let's put on the helmets...

 Laban pres. SundayStripFM

This is a premiere on my channel: the first guest mix for Sai!
SundayStripFM crossed my way recently and I recognised his deepness in his set buildings. It came into my mind that it would be nice to introduce him to you here on my platform. So here we are!
He used to be a Techno DJ under the name "Laban" from the 90ies on and was also working at the (now closed) Hardwax record store in Saarbrücken where he met other DJs and producers with whom he later collaborated with, like in b2b sets wether it was in clubs, at festivals or in radio shows - allways rooted in the underground of Germanny's rave scene.
In the last years he expanded more in calmer gengres and started to create mixes to present a new side of himself musically as a DJ(like before mostly on vinyl).
With this selection he presents his love for Ambient sound scapes and restrained Dubtechno vibes, selected in a very careful way for details.
